Overview
ChatHotel is a hotel booking platform I built on my own during my ChatGenie internship. Guests browse hotels, book against live availability and leave reviews, and administrators manage hotels, users, bookings and day prices from an admin area.
What it does
- Day-of-week pricing: administrators set a price adjustment for each day of the week, and the booking total is worked out from the room price plus that adjustment.
- Live reservations: booking updates are pushed over Action Cable, so availability stays current without a refresh.
- Accounts: registration with email activation, sessions and password reset.
- Reviews: guests can review hotels they have booked.
- Admin panel: hotels, users, bookings and day prices.
Sprint Delivery
This was the second 3-day sprint of the internship, after ChatDaters. The interesting work was the business logic: how a booking total is worked out from the room price and the day adjustment, and how availability is tracked as bookings come in. The app is packaged with Docker and set up for Render.
