Overview
An educational app that generates math word problems for Primary 5 students, aligned with Singapore's Mathematics syllabus. It was built as an assessment project.
Key Features
- Three difficulty tiers: easy, medium and hard problems, from whole-number arithmetic up to multi-step ratio, rate and volume questions.
- Progressive hints: each problem comes with three AI-written hints that guide without giving the answer, and the app records how many were used.
- Curriculum-aligned: the prompts cover Primary 5 topics such as fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, rate and volume.
- Answer history: Supabase stores each attempt, whether it was correct and how many hints were used.
- Mobile-first layout: a responsive interface for tablets and phones.
Technical Implementation
Next.js API routes call Google Gemini to generate each problem and its hints, and the app stores problems and submissions in Supabase.
Demo status
The hosted demo is not linked here because it is offline. The app called gemini-2.0-flash, which Google shut down on June 1, 2026, so the code now looks up the newest Flash models at runtime and falls back to the next one when a model is overloaded or slow. The demo's free Supabase database has also been deleted, so the app needs a new Supabase project and a run of database.sql before it will save problems again. The code is on GitHub.
